Greetings to all from Dr. Gregory Williams and my wife Sherena Williams. We wanted to give an update on how things were going for us as we have started the process of church planting in the Washington, D.C. area. Since this is our third month here, we thought that this would be a good time to give an update. Needless to say that there has been an adjustment period for us just trying to get everything in place moving from one city to another, but this has been done.
When it comes to the church plant specifically, we are still determining specifically where God will have us to minister in DC and in the surrounding areas. One reason for this is because the need is so great when it comes to wanting to spread the gospel. We want to be wise and obedient when it comes to ministry. Still, we have tried to focus on the ministry areas that we initially set out to target. So far, out of the four initial target areas we have started two Bible studies. With the other two areas, we are looking for ways to penetrate these areas and possible opportunities to do some type of ministry within those specific communities. You can take a look at the areas that we are targeting on this church plant map (just click here). In regard to the Bible classes, they are going well and the people seem genuinely enthused about the classes. Currently, we are working our way through the book of Colossians. Continue to pray for us that God will use these Bible classes to strengthen His people in the word. Also pray that God will bring people our way through the Bible class who will be part of the core group once we get ready to launch the church.
For all of you who know us, you know that evangelism is at the heart of what we want to do here in the Washington, D.C. area. I have started to do some things already when it comes to outreach and spreading the gospel. However, I am looking to take some bolder steps as I look to step up our efforts in the area of evangelism. I am reminded of Paul’s words to Timothy when he told him “to do the work of an evangelist” (2 Timothy 4:5) and that is what I intend to do. There are many in this area who would prefer that you “hush up” when it comes to speaking the truth of the gospel and the need for repentance. There are many who seem to be embarrassed or ashamed of the gospel. Certainly, they do not believe that Jesus is the answer and that the power of the gospel is what is needed. As for us, we are looking to see what steps we can take to further proclaim the gospel message in this area. Pray for us that God will open up doors and that we will be faithful to walk through them to proclaim His message to everyone that He gives us an opportunity to reach.
Next, we are in the process of trying to decide how soon God will have us to launch The Cross Baptist Church. There is a lot of work that still needs to be done and a great need on our end to make this happen from people to resources. However, things have happened in such a way that we do believe the hand of God is leading us to move this date up. So pray for us that God will bless us with the resources to make this happen according to His plan.
Finally, we want to thank the churches and individuals who have supported us in planting The Cross Baptist Church. Without your support, we would not have had this opportunity. Continue to pray for us and for those who can continue to give, please do so, your giving is not in vain. Peace to you all in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
