We want to give an update as to where we are now in the church planting process. The winter is finally over here in the Washington, DC, area. Although, we have continued to have weekly Bible studies, the weather did affect some things we wanted to do in the area of evangelism. Nevertheless, this was somewhat expected. Thus, the weather did not prove to be any type of setback. One objective that we really wanted to address was a place to hold a worship service. During the winter, I had contacted a number of locations and churches but nothing opened up for us. There is no real need to get in to some of the answers and reasons that we were given. However, I will simply say not everyone is a friend to the cross of Christ. We had some doors closed simply because we are planting a church and others denying us access because they saw us as possible competition.
Still, God has provided us a location to hold worship services. The gracious members of Church of the Atonement in Silver Spring, MD, has agreed to let us use their chapel on Thursday nights. They are allowing us to use the chapel for the next 3 months without charge and then they will review the arrangement at the end of that time. We are very grateful for their generosity.
So on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 7 p.m. we will have our worship service at Church of the Atonement (at 10613 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20902) in their chapel. Going forward we will have worship service each Thursday at 7 p.m. until the end of July. After that time we will see where the Lord will have us to meet.
We have decided that the services will be pre-launch services and not the official launch of The Cross Baptist Church. In other words, we will use these services to build our core group and a way to introduce ourself to the community. In addition, we are hoping that the worship services can serve as possible revival type services. We are praying that the Lord will not only open up doors for us as we plant The Cross Baptist Church but that he will also open hearts. Needless to say, the area that we are targeting has many unreached people. Specifically, the exact location of the our new service location is the exact area that was identified as an area of need for a church plant.
Finally, continue to pray for us and the people who have come along beside us here in the DC area. They are truly some wonderful Christians. There is so much that I could say about them, but I think just pointing out how much they love Jesus and His word sums them up.
I will keep you all posted on how the services are going and how things are going with Sherena and myself. Again we truly thank the Lord and His people who are helping us and supporting The Cross Baptist Church.
